Marlin FishingIf you are a first time visitor of Virginia Beach resort area or a longtime resident of Hampton Roads, sport fishing aboard the Mega Bite it is an experience of a lifetime.

The Mega Bite is a custom Carolina built, 47’ Buddy Davis charter boat. She is a tournament rigged sport fishing vessel, especially engineered for the Mid-Atlantic waters. This classic boat is equipped with top of the line fishing gear. We provide you with the best equipment available, from the Shimano Tiagra arsenal of reels to the Scopinich fighting chair. We also provide stand up gear, rods and belts for those who like to fight the fish standing. Our professional mate will assist you through every stage of the battle, from the second the fish enters the spread, until the quarry is in the kill box...on a bed of crushed ice. On the Mega Bite, we believe that hands on fishing is the best way to learn and to truly have a great time. You can sit back and watch or step into action with the mate coaching you. By the time you get back to the Virginia Beach Fishing Center, you will be at a new level of fishing.

This is why we believe that anglers should participate in the whole fishing experience. We supply the best baits money can buy, cold water ballyhoo from Baitmaster baits. They have better color and are tougher than other brands. This equates into more knock downs from larger fish. The longer the bait lasts, the more time the bait are in the water increasing the odds of catching fish. Captain Keith special orders them in the spring time to ensure that the best ones are available. This may seem trivial but the quality of the bait is actually more important than anything else. It is the only thing the fish will see of all the equipment mentioned above.

Captain Keith has his mate prep all the bait the night before the trip. We slow thaw the ballyhoo on ice; we then apply a mixture of kosher salt and baking soda to bothsides of the baitfish. This toughens the baits and helps them retain their bioluminescence. All our leaders are hand crimped and made “wind on”, allowing the angler to reel the fish up to the side of the boat with less leadering. This allows the mate to get a quicker gaff shot with less time for the fish to break off. We pay attention to small details like this to provide big results. This why we had one of two grand slams caught in Virginia waters last August. A grand slam is the pinnacle of offshore fishing. Grand slam means that the boat had a white marlin, a blue marlin and a sailfish on the same day. We also had a citation 74lb yellow fin tuna on the same trip. We released all the billfish to live another day.

In the Gulf Stream on a typical day you might see many different types of sea life. There are mola mola “Giant Sunfish”, basking in the tropical sunlight near the surface. We also regularly catch sight of sea turtles, loggerheads, green, and hawksbill. In the areas near the Norfolk Canyon, you can also catch a glimpse of several types of whales feeding on krill that is upwelled as the gulfstream current slams into the north wall of the Norfolk Canyon, pushing up nutrient rich waters. Some whales that we commonly see are humpback, sperm, wright and pilot whales. Orca’s are also around, but not as common. We have even seen swordfish cruising and commonly spot blue marlin free jumping.

Once we reach the blue water, we also see flying fish jumping in the prop wash. One of the most spectacular things in nature is to set your eyes on yellow fin tuna jumping six feet out of the water after a flying fish. This is also a great time to kite fish, which is one of Captain Keith’s favorite ways to fish. Bring your camera because an offshore trip off the coast of Virginia is like being on a safari at sea on the Mega Bite. People regularly tell us that the whole experience of being on a yacht in blue water offshore in the gulfstream deep sea fishing is well worth the money you spend on the trip. The fish you bring back are just a nice bonus. So come fishing with us and “Get You Bite on.”
